FAQ's - Candles

What is the burn time for your candles?

Many factors can impact the burn time of a scented candle, but we have provided an estimation below based on our own batch testing:

  • 100-120mls: 20 hours
  • 200mls: 30-35 hours
  • 300mls: 40-45 hours
  • 400ml: 50+ hours

How long should the first burn be?

The first burn & size of the wax pool sets the stage for everything. So aim to make the first burn for at least an hour, but no longer than 4 hours. What you are trying to achieve is a large wax pool, (the wax pool is right to the edge of the jar). The larger the wax pool, the more efficient your candle will perform, minimising wax waste YAY!. We want you to get burn for buck not to burn a hole in your wallet.

How can I prevent tunnelling?

Tunnelling occurs when you do a whole lot of short burns. One way to minimise this, is to ensure that the initial burn, is a decent one.

How often should I trim my candle wick?

With the exception of the first burn, you should trim the wick every time before light the candle.

Wheres the best place to put my candle?

Place your candle on a good, solid, and preferably heat resistant surface, up out of the reach of children and animals. Remember that a candle has an open flame, so position it away from curtains and drafts.

How do I maximise the fragrance throw of my candle?

Keep the doors and windows closed.

  • 200ml candles - Best suited to smaller rooms
  • 300ml candles - Best suited to medium sized spaces
  • 400ml+ candles - Best suited to larger spaces.

Do you use natural in your candles?

Yes we do because they are more gentle on the environment. Their scent will diminish over time. This is one of the reason's we make our candles in very small batches. We strongly suggest you use your candle within 6 months. If you are going to let your candle sit, store it in a cool, dark and dry place.

Do you ever use dye in your candles?

No, however natural fragrance oils can change the colour of the soy wax, especially after a couple of burns. Please note, that this is by no means a fault with the candle and is in fact, quite normal.

Why is there black smoke chugging off my wick?

Two reasons come to mind. The wick is to long or there is a draft. Both aren't good. If the wick is too long, snuff the wick, trim it, let the wax cool and then re-light it. Position your candle where there are no drafts, this will not only minimise the chance of your candle wick throwing up smoke, but also maximise the fragrance throw.
